Winter Wonder Words

I created a list of 50 words about the season of winter including activities, things you wear, and weather conditions. These words are likely to be talked about in the upcoming months, so I tried to make a list of words with a variety of speech sounds that many kids could benefit from practicing.

Here are a few ideas of how to use these words until spring:

-Pick out 10 words and write them and/or have kids draw pictures of the words. Call them ‘Words of the Week’ and put them on the fridge or a spot you’ll see them everyday to talk about to add them to your kid’s vocabulary and practice saying them.

-Go on a scavenger hunt looking for as many of the items from this list as you can. Maybe a race between siblings or against pairs within the family?!

-Ask your child, “Tell me a winter word that starts with a ‘snake sound’ ssss,” and see how many they can come up with. I bet they can think about some that aren’t even on my list!

-Make up a story using as many of these words as you can.

-Create BINGO boards with 24 (one free space) randomly chosen words from the list on a 25-square template board and play BINGO!
