Waitlist Evaluation Program Part 1

Waitlist Evaluation Program Part 1

It is an honor to be contacted by so many families who are interested in receiving speech, language, and/or feeding services with us at Family Chatterbox! There are four speech-language pathologists on our team right now. We are working hard to see as many kiddos as we can while providing our best therapy to have “graduations” which open space on our schedules.

With our Waitlist Evaluation Program, we have been able to offer personalized and specific recommendations to more families before an ongoing, weekly therapy spot becomes available. This program consists of two sessions with a speech therapist.

Here is what the first session typically consists of:

  • Gather intake paperwork and review/sign documents for the evaluation.
  • An informal assessment of the child’s communication skills.
  • This may include asking family members and the child questions, observing their play, observing their engagement with familiar toys/books/snacks, etc.
  • An oral mechanism examination to look at the structures of the mouth and how they are functioning.
  • A formal evaluation with a standardized assessment.
  • Preschool Language Scales Fifth Edition
  • Goldman-Fristoe Test of Articulation 3

The first session typically takes 1-1.5 hours to complete. This is a great time for the therapist to learn about concerns you have regarding the child’s speech, language, feeding, socialization/social skills, sleep, play skills, and any other areas of development. The therapist will return the following week for the second session.

A description of the second session and frequently asked questions for the Waitlist Evaluation Program can be found on the blog next month.

Please contact us with any questions you have in the meantime and let us know if you would like to schedule an evaluation!
