Language Strategies For Toddlers

Ever wondered why your second child just didn’t seem to pick up the same language as your first? Trying to teach your only child how to incorporate more of the everyday language into their daily communication? Want to try some tricks and tips of your own with your little one while they are developing at home? We have your back! This five part language blog breaks up some of the top three biggest strategies for teaching language to toddlers in the 2-4 year range! Buckle up, because week one is working on MODELING!

  1. Strategy 1: Focus on MODELING!
    1. Modeling needs to be LONGER and STRONGER to draw attention to the portion of speech you’d like to highlight.
    2. Anything that is said, model it back in a simple and accurate way.
    3. Model as much as possible, think “incessant speaking”. You might feel insane, but I promise it will pay off.
    4. Remember! Modeling does not require your child to repeat what you said, give them lots of input/examples

What are the ways that you are already modeling? How can you add in more? Where or during what routine do you feel you have the most time to provide more modeling for your child? Call, email, or comment on our social medial with your ideas!
