Hello Everyone!
Hope you are enjoying the warm summer weather and getting a chance to engage with those kiddos while they have some time off of school! On that note, if you are looking for a good activity to do with your kids to build their language skills in a fun and motivating way…YOU CAME TO THE RIGHT PLACE!
Today we are going to be talking about a few summer language projects that could be fun to try with your child. First start with a good summer book, anything from Pete at the Beach (Pete the Cat books) to Harry by the Sea and read the book with your child. Then take an adventure, to the pool, on a walk, to the lake, anywhere! The beauty of speech and language is that you can do it anywhere and anytime! Point out the common words/items in real life that match the book. Talk about differences, similarities, actions, conflicts, resolutions, characters, and so much more! Looking for something a bit more specific to complete? Check out this great example from “Speech Room News” blog where they read “In the Tall Tall Grass” and hide pictures and real items in the grass! What a fun way to incorporate sensory input as well!
