Hello everyone!
As a speech therapist and mama of a little one, I’m always looking to share things that I find helpful in real life with the added bonus of being beneficial for development. One of the things I’ve been working through on my own time is what type of cups are best for kiddos to drink out of as little ones transition from drinking from a bottle!
Here’s a few tips about what to look for in a cup and some links to cups I’ve actually tried myself, liked, and ended up keeping!
Tips:
- Skip the sippy cups – Long story short…they’re convenient but don’t actually help our kids oral development
- Skip the valves – Similar to sippy cups, the “spillproof” option is nice as a parent but doesn’t promote good oral motor skills
- Look for cups that utilize straw drinking or open cup drinking – this will be a bit more of a mess but WORTH IT!
Cup Ideas:
- Honey Bear Cup – GREAT starting cup to practice drinking from a straw
- Lollaland Cups – Easier to travel with by tossing into a bag
- Itsy Cup – Wonderful to transition from straw cup to open cup
- Yeti Rambler – Good water bottle option without a valve which is shockingly hard to find
Let me know if you have other good ones we should add to our repertoire!
