Communication Styles Part 2

Last blog, I listed the different communication styles of kids.  The next few blogs are going to go into more detail about each one! Remember, when thinking about communication style, there is no right or wrong.  It just tells us more about how they communicate with others and how that can help us with knowing how to teach them language and what to expect and know when something may off!

This week, we will talk about the Sociable communication style.  If your child has this communication style, it means that she/he starts interactions easily as well as responds easily to others.  These are with familiar people and can mean others that are unfamiliar to them.  He/she will consistently attempt to communicate with others for a variety of reasons without prompting.  It also means when spoken to, he/she will respond without too much prompting as well.

When we think about language disorders or articulation disorders in the Sociable communication style, the child will still attempt to communicate even without words or if difficult to understand.  They are motivated to continue to communicate, even though it is difficult.  This can lead to more frustration when they are not understood, but they won’t stop trying due to this motivation of others.

If you feel your child is attempting to communicate but is not yet using words when he/she is supposed to or is difficult to understand, your child is likely has a Sociable communication style, so there are different ways to go about helping them with language than other communication styles!  If you have any concerns or questions about this, please do not hesitate to ask! Also, tune in next time for more information on the next communication style!

have a GREAT day!
