Center Based Daycare

Previously, I started to write about how when I looked into childcare, I was amazed at the different types of childcare out there and how many places there were! I began looking and realized there was so much more to childcare than I had thought! There are so many different types of childcare and so many different places to look into. I also explained what the Montessori philosophy is and what a day may look like.  This blog will be about the center based that are nationally accredited.

Most center based childcares have a curriculum that they teach and follow.  It will vary between centers, so it is always good to ask about their curriculum and examples of lessons to see if it will interest your child!  With these curriculums, there is also set group times and activities that are completed in groups and individually at times.  Often they have a greeting time, circle time, lunch/snack time, and nap time if appropriate.  Each curriculum is different and has a different focus, whether that is on reading, math, science, etc.  It is more structured overall and has a more direct teaching aspect versus the following the child’s lead.  This type of childcare is good for children to like more structure and routine in their day.

Similar to the Montessori philosophy, there is a lot of play and exploring of items throughout the day. We know that children learn best through play, as that is their job! However, the activities of play are often set up for the child to complete.  In both types of centers, there are mandatory guidelines for number of children per adult ratio set by the state.

This is a quick overview of the center based child care option for families.  They differ from place to place as far as curriculum and expectations, but they continue to value the play aspect of children’s’ days! It is best to call and tour a childcare option before you pick to see if you feel this would be a good fit for your child!
