Are you looking for a fun Valentine’s craft to do with your kids?! This is one that is easily and has little materials or prep! See below for how to make it and how to incorporate speech and language into it!
Materials
- Paper (At least 2 different colors! Can use more!)
- A marker
Directions
- Draw a heart on one full piece of paper
- Take another piece of paper, or a few pieces of paper, of different colors and rip small pieces or let your child rip small pieces off of them
- Glue the small pieces of paper into the heart you drew
- Write “I love you to pieces” on the paper around the heart!
Making it more language rich
- Have your child tell you which piece of paper they want as the background and what color(s) they want for the pieces.
- Talk about what you are doing with the paper as you “rip” or “tear” or “pull” it apart.
- If they cannot pull it themselves, you can start to rip it and have them ask for “help”.
- Count the pieces of of ripped paper that are in the heart.
- Talk about the size of the ripped pieces of paper in relation to each other.
- Label the shapes and letters on the paper as you make them.
- Talk about where the pieces are being glued and ask your child where they want it (you can be in charge of the glue)
- If more than one child is doing the craft, have only a few pieces of paper and one glue stick and have them ask for what they need from each other and work on waiting.
- Just talk about what you are doing and ask them what they love about it and who they want to give it to!!!
Happy Valentines from all of us at Family Chatterbox!
